Lewis Road Creamery has gone back to its buttery beginnings with a new Sea Salt Crystals Premium Butter joining its award-winning butter line-up. Inspired by the classic French style of butter, French Guérande sea salt crystals are added to our Unsalted Premium Butter to give the butter a delicious flavour, unique texture and brilliant bite.
Best enjoyed slathered on a thick slice of freshly baked bread, like the brand’s own Kibbled Grain Bread, the butter is a taste sensation in itself and needs no accompaniment.

Steak Butter
Our new Steak Butter has been made in partnership with renowned chef - and steak aficionado - Sean Connolly of The Grill by Sean Connolly.
Described by Sean as “the perfect steak butter”, our ultra-creamy butter is blended in small batches with an expertly crafted mix of spices put together with ingredients of the finest quality. Top your steak with this beautifully seasoned butter to take it to another level of flavour and indulgence
Once blended, the steak butter is rolled into a user-friendly log shape and packed in food-quality, silver foil to keep out light and odour-taint. The distinctive log shape of the butter makes it nice and easy for butter lovers to simply slice off a round and serve atop steak.
“Once your steak is cooked and rested, top it with about a one centimetre-thick slice of the butter and then pop it back in a warm oven for a minute so the butter melts onto the steak to absolute perfection,” says Sean.

How to make a better butter
To be at its best, butter only relies on one ingredient. Butterfat. Without it, you haven’t got real butter. However most ‘butters’ nowadays are sadly lacking in butterfat, and high in milk protein to meet the needs of mass production.
Lewis Road doesn’t do cheap imitations, so our Premium Butters are made to the exacting standards that a superior butter requires.
But butterfat can’t take all the credit of course. Ross McCallum, the founder of Kapiti Cheese who developed our taste profiles, and Murray Seamark, who keeps a hawk’s eye on everything that comes from our churn, can share in the accolades too. Ross’s recipe blends the best of Fonterra’s export butters including a heavily cultured butter that is exported to the Middle East and an uncultured butter produced for the European market. The resulting product is rich, smooth and creamy with a cultured taste and velvety finish. Bravo gentlemen. You can enjoy their fine creations in Unsalted, Lightly Salted, Sea Salt Crystal, and our Artisan Sea Salt Crystal butters. You’ll find each slab wrapped in foil to keep it at its absolute finest.
A butter like no other
You may find it difficult to get your hands on our Artisan butter and for that we (very politely of course) make no apologies. You see our Artisan butter is lovingly hand crafted in small quantities using locally sourced cream.
However, if by some stroke of good fortune you do come across this delicate roll of velvet gold, you’ll soon discover why we’ve gone to such great effort. Firstly, you’ll notice it has a deeper yellow hue compared to most European ‘equivalents’. This is due to the bounty of fresh pasture our New Zealand dairy cows feast on all year round, instead of eating grain. Lucky them means lucky us.
Once you taste it you’ll be overcome by how incredibly rich and creamy it is. This is due to the painstaking process that produces a much lower water content than even our premium range. Whilst most of the batches end up in the kitchens of New Zealand’s leading chefs, we’re able to share some stock with a few of our favourite delicatessens.
